Get the healthcare support and prescriptions you need without the hassle of traveling to see your doctor. When you have a minor health concern, telehealth makes sense. And, if you need a new prescription, in most situations prescribers can prescribe medication as part of your visit.
Save time, and skip the trip to your doctor
Telehealth visits (also called telemedicine or virtual visits) are video or phone visits with your healthcare provider. These remote visits cover nonemergency medical needs, such as diagnosing an infection or managing chronic conditions. Telehealth is convenient (no travel required), safe and affordable. And you’ll be able to check in with your doctor without leaving your home! Plus, you’ll get the same personalized service as you’d expect from seeing your provider in person at his or her office, and visits are highly confidential.
When and why should you consider telehealth?
- Your doctor or healthcare provider is unavailable
- It’s after normal business hours
- You’re thinking of going to an immediate-care facility or emergency room (ER) for a nonemergency issue (which is expensive)
- You’re traveling and in need of medical care
- You need a new prescription
Conditions that can typically be treated in a telehealth visit
Common conditions treated by telehealth care include, among others:
- Follow-up care after an in-office visit
- Medication reviews and refills
- Ear infection
- Rash or insect bite
- Sore throat
Prescription delivery, to your door
Many people are staying home and having their prescriptions delivered by mail right to their door. If you’re a Humana member and need a maintenance medication, you can ask your telehealth provider to choose “Humana Pharmacy® Mail Delivery” from their e-prescribing software, and you’ll receive a 90-day supply delivered by mail. If you need your medicine right away, you can ask your provider to send 2 prescriptions—1 for your local pharmacy and 1 for mail delivery. Mail delivery is a great option if you prefer to stay indoors or can’t go to the pharmacy.
To take advantage of telehealth coverage, call your healthcare provider to set up a specific time to connect virtually. If you don’t have a regular doctor or your provider doesn’t offer telehealth, call the Customer Care number on the back of your Humana ID card. Humana has expanded coverage for telehealth care and is waiving out-of-pocket costs for telehealth visits through the end of 2020.
